On May 3-6th the Westgate Town Center Resort and Spa in Orlando Florida hosted 1,400 military families for their annual Westgate Resort Military Weekend. May 3rd kicked off the weekend with the arrival of the families and a Veteran Service Organization Resource Fair. Guardian for Heroes (GFH) was invited to attend the Resource Fair. During the 5-hour event GFH was honored to be able to share about the physical fitness programs that we have been supporting, and in the process, we were able to connect with 40 veterans that we have the potential to serve. Day two of the weekend the families got to enjoy all the amenities that the resort had to offer, from the on-property waterpark called Shipwreck Island to paddle boating on the small lake, there was much fun to be had for all ages. Following the fun activities, the Westgate Resort hosted an evening concert with free food provided by the resort and great music by the Chris Weaver Band. Day 3 of this great military weekend the families got to enjoy the sunny weather of Orlando, Florida while riding roller coasters and watching Shamu and friends perform at various shows thanks to the free theme park tickets to SeaWorld provided by Waves of Honor. The Westgate wrapped up this event with a pastry breakfast provided for free to the visiting military families as a final opportunity to visit with those they had met throughout the weekend before everyone returned home to their applicable posts and jobs. This Weekend brought together military families at various stages in their military career as a gesture of gratitude where they were able to relax and enjoy a free weekend getaway provided by the Westgate Resort as a token of appreciation to those who have served.
