Shawn Wright served his country with full commitment to his oath. During deployment he suffered a traumatic brain injury and also has PTS. Shawn can not function in social settings and avoids crowds and other people at all cost. His wife requested we provide Shawn with some equipment for their home to help him. We just installed the equipment and received the following email from her:
“The equipment was delivered and set up today. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you again for everything you’ve done for Shawn and in turn our entire family during this process. I can’t tell you how much this means to him. Thank you for the hours you’ve put in and the conversations you had to have with the board on his behalf. You’ve truly made a significant difference in Shawn’s life, more than I can even convey to you.
This is a process we started about 7 years ago I believe. Shawn had long ago given up hope it would ever happen. I’ll never forget the look on his face when I told him I received that first call from you. He felt important and not forgotten, a huge thing for a guy struggling with TBI & PTSD on a daily basis. You’ve given him some hope back for his health, some confidence in his ability to accomplish fitness goals. He’s been talking for weeks about how he’s going to get into shape and feel better.
So thank you again for what you as part of Guardian For Heroes has done for Shawn and what you do for so many other Veterans. It’s so much more than helping them achieve fitness goals; it’s assuring them they can have hope in themselves again. It’s reminding them to believe in themselves. It’s encouraging them to remember those strong warriors still live in their now wounded bodies and minds. It gives them a reason to not be one of the 22 a day. You’ve give Shawn a reason to not be one of the 22.
I am overwhelmingly grateful for this gift to the man that is not only my husband, but also the daddy to our 4 children (ages 15,12,8,3). They are seeing how very respected and honored daddy is. That’s the gift to me. So thank you for that.”
Guardian For Heroes is honored to provide this hero and his family with the help they need and we look forward to continuing to work with the Wright family as they continue on their journey into full integration back to civilian life.
